Carolyn Denham & Roderick Field (the dynamic duo behind the company) are absurdly proud to present an exqusitely beautiful condensed volume of our take on the art of sewing and the sheer satisfaction of making.
Our first book, published by Collins & Brown of London, is a two part extravaganza. Part I reveals why and how we do what we do and presents the information you need to be part of the growing sewing renaissance. Part II is a veritable sewing course with fifteen lovely items to make, featuring complete instructions, diagrams and pictures to make your mouth water. Each project builds on the skills learned in the previous one and we even enclose two patterns for you to scale up and make.
We believe we can encourage you, dear reader, to successfully express yourself through taking charge of your textiles.
There is so much more to making desirable and useful items than just running your cloth under the macchine needle. We also expect you to get the hammer out and have some fun.
We love sewing and believe in it. It provides the invisible thread that literally holds together the world we know. It is everywhere, from the clothes we wear to the sails that enabled the discovery of America. It is in our shoes, the seats on the bus and lurks quietly all around the home. It is best friend to the upholsterer, the seamstress and tailor, the diva and the surgeon and is as ancient as time itself.
Our ancestors sat around the first fire and stitched skins together to make up for their own evolutionary furlessness. Before television, radio and writing, it kept busy the hands of millions, creating warmth, comfort, art and expression. It still does. Without a good strong bag to keep it all in, our world might just fray and fall apart.
