Description:

Paynter Jacket Co. make limited edition jackets four times a year that are made to order, so there's no waste from over production. Their jackets are classic pieces that will stand the test of time and get better with age. The Field Jacket is Paynter's first make-your-own jacket pattern in collaboration with Merchant & Mills.

All paper patterns will include two woven labels, one is to be positioned inside the jacket near the hip and the other is a smaller label for the back neck. The larger label has been designed by @hello.ludio. Lucie’s design features the sun and the moon to represent time and getting lost in the practice of making. These labels are only available in the paper pattern, not PDF, and won’t be sold elsewhere.

All seam allowances are 1.5cm unless stated otherwise and are included in the pattern.

Size XS-XXL.

Skill level; Advanced. (We have a blog post here, that shows you how to change the hip pocket to a patch pocket, this makes it an easier sew and also means you go through slightly less layers so you could use a thicker fabric.)

Fabric suggestions - We recommend light to medium weight wovens up to 8oz, cotton twills, denim, wool and dry oilskin. There are 9 layers to sew through during the pocket construction, so check the fabric you choose can be accommodated by your sewing machine.

Need sewing help? We have made a You Tube video that takes you through the two trickier steps of the Paynter pattern, the placket and the hip pockets. You can view that video here.

For sizing we would recommend checking the finished measurements against a jacket that you like the fit of. Note - we will be adding an image for the XXL jacket asap, if you are unsure of fit and sizing at all please do not hesitate to email us.

Paper vs PDF

If you order a paper copy you will be sent a printed version of our pattern. If you select PDF, you are purchasing a digital file which will be stored on your account to be downloaded at any time. PDF's will include a tiled, an A0 copy shop file and your instructions. The tiled file can be used on any home printer and stuck together and is compatible with both A4 and US letter paper. Alternatively, you can send off the copy shop file to be printed full size; we can usually recommend someone in your area. If you are in the UK, we would recommend The Fold Line. The instructions can either be printed at home or simply follow along on your computer or phone.

Fabrics Pictured (from left to right)

Dan is wearing the Paynter in a large (men's length). The cloth is the Desert Town canvas. FYI this sample was made during testing and we found the fabric to be too thick, so we wouldn't recommend it!

Sandra is wearing the Paynter in a medium (women's length). Sandra is a UK size 12. The cloth is a deadstock denim, this would be the most similar.

Seb is wearing the Paynter in a medium (men's length). The cloth is our Organic Half Panama.

Suzie is wearing the Paynter in a XXL (women's length). The cloth is Dusk Crinkle Cotton.

John is wearing the Paynter in a XL (men's length). John is a 122cm chest. The cloth is our Meadow Dry Oilskin.

Nancy is wearing the same denim jacket as Sandra, Nancy is slightly smaller than Sandra, a 10-12.
