A Saturday day class aimed at either complete beginners, or students that haven’t been on a machine in a long time! If you love our fabrics but don’t want to commit to making your own clothes this is a great place to start. Cushions for your bedroom or living space can instantly update the space.
Time – 10 – 5 (breaking one hour for lunch).
At the beginning of the class you’ll get a demonstration on how you thread up a sewing machine, wind on a bobbin, and all of the basics of straight sewing, reversing etc. You’ll then have a go on some scrap fabrics before starting your project for the day.
In this class you’ll be making a square cusion with a lapped zip.
You are very welcome to move onto another project if you finish your first within the time.
We will cover the following:
- Getting to grips with the sewing machine, how to thread and find your way around all the nuts and bolts.
- How seam allowances work and why we use them.
- Using a paper pattern.
- How to finish your seams correctly.
- Pairing fabrics to projects for a successful outcome by looking at several fabric options for both projects.
- Measuring and cutting out correctly.
What is included in your class:
- 10% off all purchases in the shop.
- Zip for your cushion.
- Plentiful supply of tea/coffee and cake.
- All relevant Merchant & Mills tools and notions for the day.
Note your fabric and cushion inner is not included in your class fee. You can buy these on the day if you would like.
Lunch is not included. Rye has a plentiful array of cafes to sit in or places to buy take away food. We have a large kitchen table where you can bring things back to eat or bring your own.
