Description:

Time – 10 – 5 (breaking one hour for lunch)

Skill level – Advanced Beginner.

Spend a Saturday with us sewing a Pomegranate Lampshade fabric cover. Good lighting is hard to find! The benefit of making your own fabric shade is that you can choose a fabric that complements your room, and you can even keep making new versions as your interior changes over the years.

You will have the choice of making either the Petite Pomegranate (this can be a lampshade or a ceiling pendant) or the full-size Pomegranate which is for pendant ceiling light. This is a great project for using lots of our lighter weight cotton handlooms and block prints. You can use either a plain or patterned cloth.

This is a class aimed at those who are confident using a sewing machine and a pattern - advanced beginners to intermediate sewers.

We will cover the following:

  • How to use our Bernina sewing machines, from bobbin winding to threading and finding your way around all the nuts and bolts.
  • Using a paper pattern.
  • Picking fabrics for a successful outcome by looking at several fabric options for this project.
  • Measuring and cutting out correctly.
  • Sewing techniques such as cutting and sewing bias binding, using an overlocker and sewing perfect ties.

What is included in your class:

  • Pomegranate lampshade frame & pattern (either the petite or full size).
  • 10% off all purchases in the shop.
  • Plentiful supply of tea/coffee and cake.
  • All relevant Merchant & Mills tools and notions for the day.

Note fabric is not included in your class fee.

Lunch is not included. Rye has a plentiful array of cafes to sit in or places to buy take away food. We have a large kitchen table where you can bring things back to eat or bring your own.

The Studio:

The studio is on the mezzanine above the shop, so we have all fabric and notions on hand. You will be using an array of Merchant & Mills tools. We have Bernina sewing machines and two overlockers. Everything you'll need is here, there's no need to bring your own kit!

Each student has ample space in which to cut out and work in, with plentiful natural light.

Accessibility:

Our studio is currently only available via stairs. We are always thinking of ways in which we can improve accessibility for the future.

Dogs and service dogs:

As a dog friendly workplace, please be aware that we have a few well-behaved dogs on site most days.

We cannot accommodate dogs on the retreats or classes however, registered service dogs are welcome, please let us know at the time of booking if you will be bringing your service dog.

Terms & Conditions:

Our courses are non-refundable unless we have a reserve list and we can fill your space.

In the unlikely event that we have to cancel a class we will offer a transfer to a new date or a full refund.

If you have any queries about this class you can email Lucy on [email protected].
