Description:

A unique handcrafted cloth woven in a natural ecru Kala cotton with orange detail. Glass mirrors called Abhla have been embroidered onto the cloth by hand. Abhla is translated as 'bits of sky' so dress yourself in fabric that reflects the sky!

Please note when you receive this ecru cloth you may notice small pink dots. This is the transfer pen that is used in India for the makers to make a mark where to embroider the mirrors. These marks will wash out in a couple of washes.

This cloth would make beautiful skirts, dresses, tops and shirts. It would also be suitable for lightweight curtains.

  • 4.1oz, 140gsm.
  • 122cm wide.
  • 100% organic cotton.
  • GOTS certified.
  • Embroidered mirror - 8mm
  • Country of origin; India.
  • Indian handlooms are sometimes susceptible to irregularities in the weave due to their handmade nature, this is all part of their charm and are not classed as flaws.
  • For the first couple of washes, place the fabric in the washing machine drum at 30 or 40 degrees with a handful of table salt. This will help fix the dye to prevent it running.
  • Wash at 30 or 40 degrees with a non bio detergent. Do not tumble.
  • As all computer monitors show colours differently, we recommend ordering a sample of the cloth to check it is the right colour and weight for your project.
  • Thread match Gutermann Sew All: 169.

More about this cloth

This cloth is made with Kala cotton. Kala cotton is indigenous to Kutch in India and by default organic, as the farmers do not use any pesticides or synthetic fertilisers. It is a purely rain-fed crop that has a high tolerance for both disease and pests and requires minimal investment. The cotton has a beautiful rustic quality and we love it for it’s eco credentials and raw beauty.
