TENCEL™ Lyocell are cellulose fibers and are made dissolving wood pulp. They are durable, improve the wrinkle recovery rate of the fabric and produce a smooth drape with a silky-soft texture.
They contribute to fabric breathability that supports the body's natural thermal regulation and have a higher vapor uptake than cotton. TENCEL™ fibers are unfavorable for bacterial growth. Making it a good choice for those with sensitive skin. TENCEL™ is a trademark of Lenzing AG
Eco credentials
The process of TENCEL Lyocell production ameliorates much of its own environmental effects. TENCEL fibers are made from wood. However, manufacturing TENCEL Lyocell fibers requires less energy and water than cotton. The solvents used to turn the wood pulp into fibre are contained in a closed loop system, with a quoted recovery rate of 99%. As a botanic origin derived fibres, TENCEL Lyocell are also biodegradable.
Although it is dyed conventionally (which can be harmful to the environment), TENCEL™ fibers require a lot less dye than cotton. The manufacturers are actively striving towards greener, cleaner and more efficient production and are currently investing in new, renewable energy sources.
