6 nights (from £1,765) Print | Stitch | Play with Miesje Chafer
Description
Miesje is a designer, maker and artist based on the south coast and has been creating and teaching for over 15 years. With a passion for colour, pattern and design, her work focuses on using patchwork, printing and hand stitch to bring a joyful element to everyday objects. Her first love is for hand sewing; whether it's quilting, embroidery, needlepoint or patchwork, she is never happier than when she has a slow-stitch project in her hands.
Alongside private commissions, she has also created bespoke work for Loop, The Conran Shop and the National Trust and has taught various workshops all over the country.
This workshop is suitable for all skill levels and is designed to allow you to be creative with screen printing, patchwork, needlepoint and chicken scratch embroidery.
Day 1
Introductory talk with Miesje in the Studio.
A day of hand cutting stencils and screen printing your own designs onto a variety of fabrics to create the foundations of your wall hanging.
Day 2
You’ll be turning your printed patches into wall hangings. Experimenting with combining different sizes and mixing plain and printed patches. You’ll be using a sewing machine but no previous experience is required.
Day 3 – (half day)
This is a slightly shorter day, which leaves you time for shopping or spending some time in Rye or the surrounding areas. In the morning, you’ll finish your patch work, transforming it into a wall hanging that can be used around the home or hung on the wall. Approximately from 10am – 2pm.
Day 4
A day of experimenting, where you can choose from; finish wall hanging or make another smaller piece of patchwork, needlepoint, chicken scratch embroidery. Participants won't need to be limited to one activity on this day, you can pick and choose.
In the evening you’ll head out for a farewell supper with Miesje and your fellow students to toast all your hard work!
