6 nights Katherine Fraser Weaving
Description
Established in 2010, Designer-weaver Katherine Fraser creates unique, handwoven textiles for fashion and interiors, providing high quality one-off products using only the best natural fibres and traditional weaving looms. We came across Katherine's beautiful work after she sent us some samples with the idea of collaborating on a product for our HOUSE brand. If you have a love of textiles and sew your own clothes, learning to weave is the natural next step!
This workshop is suitable for all skill levels and is designed to allow you to experiement and learn about the weaving process.
Day 1
Introductory talk with Katherine in the studio explaining the weaving process in detail and colour theory within weaving. You’ll create windings and plan stripes and patterns. Katherine will talk you through the loom set up process and you will get a chance to try winding a warp on a warping mill.
Day 2
Time to start weaving. You will have your own loom and can choose to spend lots of time making a sampler, or you can focus on one design and come out with a larger piece of cloth.
Day 3 – (half day)
This is a slightly shorter day, which leaves you time for shopping or spending some time in Rye or the surrounding areas.
In the morning, you’ll continue with weaving your creation. Approximately from 10am – 2pm.
Day 4
Spend the morning weaving and in the afternoon you will cut off your fabric from looms and finish it, with the option to make your weaves into small cushion covers, wall hangings or scarves.
In the evening you’ll head out for a farewell supper with Katherine and your fellow students to toast all your hard work!
Saturday
Saturday is a free day for you to have a relaxed day in Rye after a week of weaving. Re visit your favourite Rye spots, get some last minute fabrics at the shop or go further afield to somewhere like Hastings or Great Dixter and have a day out with your new friends
