Description:

The Factotum tutorial is as near as we can bring you to attending an actual course but at a fraction of the cost! Filled to the brim with detailed demonstration and dotted with intuitive pause points, the Factotum Tutorial is your best friend when making the Factotum bag. Watch the trailer above for a taster.

A neat cross body bag, small but copious. Factotum has been designed to hold all your daily essentials. Fully lined, with two front pockets and a zipped closure. You can use leather or webbing for your strap.

Once purchased you will be emailed a unique login to the Merchant & Mills PRIVATE VIEWING ROOM where you can view the full video at your leisure. You will be able to return there anytime to reiterate, refresh or review what you’ve learned. Please note you need to ‘checkout’ for this on its own, if you’d like to purchase cloth etc this needs to be done as a separate transaction.

Finished measurements length 20cm, width 30cm, depth at widest point 12cm.

All seam allowances are 1cm unless otherwise stated.

Skill level - intermediate.

Fabric suggestions - Oilskin, dry oilskin, mid-heavy weight cotton canvas or drill, mid weight denim (8-14oz). For the lining we would suggest using either our 5oz organic dry oilskin, half panama cotton, or barrier lining. You can see all of these by clicking on the suitable fabrics tab.

Paper vs PDF

If you order a paper copy you will be sent a printed version of our pattern. If you select PDF you are purchasing a digital file. This will include a tiled, an A0 copy shop file and your instructions. The tiled file can be used on any home printer, and is compatible with both A4 and US letter paper. You just need to print out the sheets and stick them together following the guide. Alternatively you can send off the copy shop file to be printed full size; we can usually recommend someone in your area. If you are in the UK we would recommend either The Fold Line or Pattern to Paper. The instructions can either be printed at home or simply follow along on your computer or phone.

You will need

Matching thread

Leather strap - 2.5cm x 98cm (View 1)

Webbing - 2.5cm x 98cm (view 2)

Rivets - 4 x 9mm

Loops - 2 x 2.5cm

Zip - 1 x 30cm

When inserting the rivets we recommend using a very solid surface like a cement floor so there is no movement.

For the loops we have two options, these or these. The 1" ones offer a snug fit and the 1.25" ones allow for a bit more movement, it's a personal preference.
