Description:

The Ottoline is a boxy workwear jacket with cuff and side seam splits and inside pocket. Although a lovely design detail the vents are a little tricky, so we have included instructions to simplify Ottoline by excluding the side seams and sleeve vents if you like.

We have found that a heavy duty thread rather than a topstitch thread gives a more authentic look to the topstitching and is easier to use. You may find you get a better stitch using a matching 'sew all' thread in the bobbin.

All seam allowances are 1.5cm unless otherwise stated.

Skill level - experienced, but not doing the slits on the hip or sleeves would make it a more intermediate level.

Fabric suggestions - 8 - 12.5oz non stretch denim, medium weight cotton drill or canvas, dry oilskin, linen and corduroy. For the lining we would suggest using either our 5oz organic dry oilskin, half panama cotton, or barrier lining. You can see all of these by clicking on the suitable fabrics tab.

Paper vs PDF

If you order a paper copy you will be sent a printed version of our pattern. If you select PDF, you are purchasing a digital file which will be stored on your account to be downloaded at any time. PDF's will include a tiled, an A0 copy shop file and your instructions. The tiled file can be used on any home printer and stuck together and is compatible with both A4 and US letter paper. Alternatively, you can send off the copy shop file to be printed full size; we can usually recommend someone in your area. If you are in the UK, we would recommend either The Fold Line or Net Printer. The instructions can either be printed at home or simply follow along on your computer or phone.

Co-Ords – Head to toe in your favourite cloth

Pattern – Foreman jacket. Elwen made a size 38 with no modifications apart from lengthening the sleeves by 5cm. The Saltmarsh skirt is from the Workbook and has been shortened by 30cm.

Fabric – Acid House linen, buttons are Nero.

Pattern – Ottoline and Eve. Both size 10. Elwen has used the selvedge of Aki on the top pocket.

Fabric – Aki, a Japanese canvas. Buttons are Nero. Elwen is wearing her Aki suit with the Jack Tar bag made in Stanley Tan.

Pattern – Edie top and Saltmarsh skirt (again shortened by 30cm). Both size 10.

Fabric – Borough Check linen.
