Indian Ikat Cotton San

$17.60/metre
Description

The newest batch is Ikat San is different from the first. The picture has been updated to reflect the new browner colour.

A rich caramel cloth made up of the warp and weft being a deep orange and black with scattered cross-hatch motif in mixture of warm tones.

Suitable for dresses, tops, shirts, and looser fitting trousers or shorts. we would make an Ellsworth or a summer weight Cawley.

Ikat is a resist dyeing technique where the threads used for weaving are dyed beforehand.  The Ikat threads are bound in a pattern so that the threads covered by the binding 'resist' the dye, creating a design.  The more binding done before weaving, the more complicated the pattern.

  • 114cm wide.
  • 3.6oz, 122gsm.
  • 100% cotton.
  • Country of origin; India.
  • Cross-hatch - 2cm
  • Pattern repeat - 8.5cm
  • Ikat cloths are prone to slubs and often have ties in the cloth where one weaver ends and another begins, the ties will be on the wrong side of the cloth and we will endeavour to point this out on your packing slip if we see any. These are not flaws.
  • For the first couple of washes, place the fabric in the washing machine drum at with a handful of table salt. This will help fix the dye to prevent it running.
  • Wash at 30 or 40 degrees with a non bio detergent. Do not tumble dry.
  • As our Indian cloth is handmade, they are susceptible to irregularities in the weave or print, this is all part of their charm and are not classed as flaws.
  • As all computer monitors show colours differently, we recommend ordering a sample of the cloth to check it is the right colour and weight for your project.
  • Thread match Gutermann Sew All: 288

Ikat San is suitable for the following patterns in our Workbook: Bantam, Saltmarsh, Heron and Curlew.
